2018 is comming soon. The global tire industry almost saw another big merger in 2017, but there was plenty of other activity keeping firms busy in the year. From new investments to new structures, here are four of the biggest events within the tire sector.

RMA gets a new name

It's been seven years since the Rubber Manufacturers Association and its non-tire division parted ways, making it a tire-focused group.

RMA decided that now was the time for its identity to reflect that. So in May the association rebranded as the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association, ending a 102-year run under its old name.

The new name and logo were revealed on May 23 along with a newly designed website with features such as new economic impact figures about the U.S. tire industry, among others.
