ATRC 2017 TAKES OFF WITH OVER 200 PARTICIPANTS

The fourth Asian Tyre and Rubber Conference (ATRC 2017) started off on a positive thrust on sustainable growth. Over 200 delegates attended the opening day event at Hyatt Regency in Chennai, India.

Satish Sharma, ATMA Chairman, and President – APMEA, Apollo Tyres, inaugurated the two-day conference. In his keynote address Sharma emphasised the need for light weight tyres that can help fuel conservation and cost saving. Increasing investments in R&D, automation and focus on tubeless tyres for CVs are positive signs of sustainable growth, he said.

Eric Nesselhauf, MD & CEO, Daimler India CommercialVehicles Division, Special Invitee Speaker, also laid stress on how tyre makers need to adopt technological changes to support the automobile sector’s focus on sustainability.

Harm Voortman, CEO, VMI, delivered the Special Address. Sustainable industry is sustainable business, he said.
Antony Powath, President, ABM, delivered the Welcome Address.
ATRC 2017 began with a solemn tribute to John Powath, power and pillar behind the success of the conference, which is now a leading global brand and a premier gathering of tyre industry leaders. John passed away on March 28, 2017.

The conference has six technical sessions spread over two days. The theme is Breakthrough Technology for Sustainable Future.
