Sumitomo Expands Tire Production in Brazil

Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd. annouced plans to invest $312 million to add bus and truck tires production in Brazil, expanding its exisiting facility by an additional 144,000 square feet..

In a formal statement, the company decided to begin production of truck and bus tires in order to ensure a steady supply of truck and bus tires for the Brazilian domestic market.

Local production of truck and bus tires is scheduled to begin in March of 2019 with an initial capacity of 500 tires per day.

Also, beginning in 2017 Sumitomo will invest an additional $175 million to increase production of passenger car and light trucks tires. Currently the plant produces 15,000 tires daily.
