The U.S. Department of Energy has certified Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.’s tire plant in Texarkana as a Superior Energy Performance facility at the agency’s gold level.

The plant was recognized for implementing International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 50001, which Cooper said “provides a framework of requirements for organizations to develop policies for more efficient use of energy, use data to drive decisions about energy use and measure results.”
In addition to meeting the ISO standard, the plant earned the gold distinction by meeting the SEP program’s additional standards, improving energy efficiency by more than 10 percent over three years.
"As part of our overall sustainability efforts, Cooper is committed to reducing energy usage at all of our facilities worldwide,” Tom Wood, Cooper’s director of global environmental affairs, said in a statement.
"We are proud that our Texarkana plant has earned SEP Gold certification, a significant accomplishment that requires innovative thinking, targeted goal setting, effective execution and continued measurement of performance with a strong commitment to continuous improvement.”
