The Rubber Manufacturers Association presented 20 Safety and Health Improvement Program awards this year to four tiremakers.
RMA’s Safety and Health Improvement Program, established in 1981, recognizes member companies that achieve significant enhancements in worker health and safety. The SHIP awards encourage and reward a company’s demonstrated commitment to worker health and safety.
Bridgestone Americas and Michelin North America took home awards in the excellence category, which awards manufacturing facilities that achieve an incidence rate that is 75% better than the average achieved by plants that provide data to RMA. Bridgestone’s plants in Griffin, Ga., and Long Beach, Calif.; and Michelin’s plant in Starr-Anderson, S.C., and Tweel plant in Greenville, S.C.; were chosen as recipients of the SHIP Excellence awards.
The RMA awarded sixteen other manufacturing facilities in the improvement category, which recognizes plants that achieve an incidence rate that is both 10% better than its rate in the previous year and the same or better than the RMA average incidence rate. The SHIP Excellence award was presented to Bridgestone’s Griffin, Ga., and Long Beach, Calif., plants; Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.’s Clarksdale, Miss., plant; Michelin’s Greenville, S.C., Midland City, Ala., Lexington, S.C. (two plants), Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Norwood, N.C., plants; and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.’s Buffalo, N.Y., Danville, Va., Fayetteville, N.C., and Topeka, Kan., plants.
